SIBU (Aug 28): The recently concluded Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) is another successful event that will help promote Sibu, said Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting.

He said the festival was made more interesting with additional cultural performances such as the ‘wayang kulit’ (shadow play) and dances from local and international performers.

“Such interesting performances helped attract visitors from near and far, making BCF a successful event,” he said during a full council meeting yesterday.

He added that SMC will stage BCF in July next year, as was traditionally practised, instead of hosting the event in August.

“The council will also ensure that the date for the festival will not clash with the dates of other big events so as to ensure that visitors patronising BCF will not be affected,” he said.

He noted that this year’s festival took place from Aug 8 to 17.

On a separate matter, Ting said the council is discussing on having fewer speeches for the 2025 New Year countdown.

“Instead of speeches, we want to introduce more multicultural dances and performances to attract locals and internationals to attend and count down into the next year with us,” he said.
