Last Date of Payment For Assessment Rates of 1st Half of 2019 The owners of rateable holdings situated within the jurisdiction of Sibu Municipal Council are hereby reminded that the current rates of 1st half of 2019 should be settled on or before Friday, 31 May 2019. YB Datuk Chairman expressed his appreciation to all those who have made early payment thus far. Until 26 May 2019, we have received RM22,396,201.35 million or 53.76 % out of an estimated total of RM41,654,716.15 million for assessment rates this year. He appealed to the rate-payers to pay early to avoid unnecessary surcharges being imposed upon them for late payment. Duplicate copies of the SMC Assessment Bills are obtainable free of charge from UTC Counter, Sibu Central Market or SMC Assessment Billing Counter at Level 19, Wisma Sanyan, Jalan Sanyan, Sibu in the event that the original bill is lost or misplaced. |
2 | Borneo Cultural Festival 2019 This year, Council is going to organize the 16th Borneo Cultural Festival to be held from 18 (Thursday) to 27 (Saturday) July 2019. With the theme of “Beauty in Ethnic Diversities”, similarly to previous years, there are 3 Community Pavillions: Dayak, Malay & Melanau and Chinese to perform a variety of stage programmes respectively. Apart from that, traditional food stalls of the 3 communities will be held at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Fasa I, whereas Top Event Services Sdn Bhd has been appointed to organize BCF Tradex at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Fasa II. Council has extended invitations to all Friendship Cities, Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand to perform for the last 3 nights of BCF at Main Stage, Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Fasa I. BCF opening parade will be held on 20 July 2019 (Saturday) to showcase Sibu's rich and colourful cultural heritage, whereby participants from various communities were encouraged to put on their traditional costumes. The contingents comprising of School Bands, SMC Councillors, Community Leaders, NGOs from 3 Community Pavilions; namely, Dayak, Malay/Melanau and Chinese, Tradex Belt, Arts & Cultural Belt and etc. All participants were reminded to assemble at Chuang Corridor adjacent to Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Fasa 1. |
3 | Sibu Street Art Festival 2019 Another highlight is the Sibu Street Art Festival which shall be incorporated with the Borneo Cultural Festival to be held along the stretch of Ring Tower Nos. 1 to 3 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Fasa I. With the theme: “Nature of Borneo, More to Discover”, many artists have registered their participation to show-case their talents during the festival. The event will feature street art gallery, creative bazaar, street busking and mural photo booth. All are welcome to join the fun and experience themselves the activities scheduled throughout the event. |
4 | Bazaar Ramadhan NGOs had initiated to organize Bazaar Ramadhan at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Fasa II, similar to the concept of past years from 5.5.2019 (Sunday) to 4.6.2019 (Tuesday). In fact, there are quite a number of trading lots set up by various groups such as Pasar Malam, Pelita Towerview & Wisma Sanyan, FAMA, Farley Supermarket, Sing Kwong Supermarket and Kampung Bandung under their own capacity. |
5 | Anti-littering Campaign & Illegal Dumping The Council’s Public Health & Services Section is organizing Anti-littering Campaign annually for both Primary & Secondary School children as a refresher reminder to convey the message to their elders, parents and friends. NGOs and voluntary organizations are also organizing educational approaches on “Anti-littering Campaign” to gloom the public on mind-set changes and to abide the laws. Litter can cause a whole range of problem for everyone in our communities. Cigarette butts are the most common form of marine litter. Many smokers don’t believe that littering their cigarette butts have an environmental impact or its inappropriate behaviours. It can cause fire also sends a message that people really don’t care about our Earth. Illegal dumping is another problem and commonly found, in particular, Kpg Bahagia Jaya area, Sentosa Resettlement area and some private vacant lands. Councillors in-charge of their respective zones were reminded to assist Council to come out with some workable solution to zero-in illegal dumping. Though the existing Councillors terms of office will expire on 30.6.2019, Council has not received any official memo from the Ministry of Local Government & Housing. He advised the Councillors to continue to serve the Rakyat diligently. |
6 | Hawkers at Sibu Central Market Renovation of Sibu Central Market is still on-going. YB Datuk Chairman urged the Chairman of stallholders from Sibu Central Market and traders of Pasar Tamu to co-operate and adopt tolerance among each other. The enclosed pork stalls were almost in the stage of completion. Butchers could then move back once the minor electrical works and other related fittings were completed. Stallholders at 1st floor and ground floor were advised to move out and move back in accordance with the schedule. Renovation work is expected to be completed ahead of the schedule. YB Datuk Chairman feels proud to comment that Sibu Central Market is one of the largest dry and wet markets in Malaysia, comprising of multi-racial hawkers and Pasar Tamu traders. Varieties of local food delicacies, local produce and handicraft are found at Sibu Central Market and Pasar Tamu. It is one of the tourist attraction centres in Sibu. He reminded all stallholders and traders to pay the licence, rental and miscellaneous fees for 2019 and to adhere to the licence conditions by trading 25 days per month. Those hawkers who were sick could apply for leave of absence from trading. Stallholders who allow unauthorized person to operate at their stalls were liable for cancellation of licence. Once again, he appealed to the co-operation from all hawkers. |
7 | UTC Sibu Operating Hours During Ramadhan Month During Ramadhan month, there is a slight change of operating hours for UTC Sibu. The said operating hours from 5.5.2019 (Sunday) to 9.6.2019 (Sunday) are from 8.00am to 4.30pm. |
8 | Closure of Delta Swimming Pool During Festival Celebrations Members of general public are reminded that Delta Swimming Pool will be closed on 1.6.2019 and 2.6.2019 for Gawai Dayak celebration. It will be closed on 5.6.2019 and 6.6.2019 for Hari Raya Aidilfitri too. |
9 | Selamat Hari Gawai Dayak and Selamat Berpuasa Last but not least, YB Datuk Chairman wished all Dayak Councillors and staff, “Selamat Hari Gawai Dayak, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai Lantang Senang”. And to all Muslims Councillors and staff, “Selamat Menyambut Bulan Ramadhan and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri”. A happy holiday and have a joyous double-festive celebrations to all. |
