Car Ramp Erection & Occupying Carparks/Open Spaces/Traffic Island & Erection of Awning

Since Council introduced standard application guidelines for car ramp erection, occupying carparks, open spaces and traffic island on 1.1.2018, Council observed that number of application that submitted to Council is far less than total registered proprietors who are applying the said structures in their business activities. Besides that, Council also noticed that plenty of illegal erection of awning constructed between corner shoplots without approval. Therefore, all proprietors of vehicles repair workshop, car wash workshop, accessories workshop and other business proprietors are reminded to submit application according to Council standard application guideline before erection of any structure over carparks, open spaces, traffic island and awning for commercial purpose.

Council had come up with standard guidelines of application including minimum clearance space, different categories of usage five foot way, permit fees and deposit fees to be imposed. Study on Integrated Solid Waste Management in Sarawak- Notification of Solid Waste Public Survey

Eco-Ideal Consulting Sdn Bhd had been appointed by Ministry of Local Government and Housing as consultant on the said study. The survey is still going on from 14^th to 30^th April 2018 in order to identify the waste generation amount per household and waste composition at source. The waste study focused on generation source at several residential areas in Sibu as follows:

Assessment Rates Collection

Sibu Municipal Council is glad to inform that as at 25 April 2018, the assessment rates collection for the year 2018 has reached RM 9,132,107.65.That constitutes 22.42% of the total yield this year.  Further, we have collected 10.90% of arrears amounting to RM 745,577.62.  We wish to attribute the remarkable collection to the ratepayers who have rendered their full support and co-operation.  All rate payers are reminded that assessment bill for the first half of year 2018 should be settled before 31^st May 2018. Duplicate copies of Assessment Bill can be obtained from Counter 4, UTC Sibu, Kaunter Agensi Kerajaan Negeri Sarawak UTC1, Sibu Central Market Multi Storey Car Park, No. 2, Jalan Bengkel, Sibu.

Bazaar Ramadhan

As like previous years, Council decided not to organise and erect any booth for festive sales or Bazaar Ramadhan at Sibu Town Square Phase II. Therefore, any interested traders are encouraged to submit their proposal to Council for consideration.

As at todate, there are four applications being approved by Council namely Management of Pelita Towerview, Wisma Sanyan at Jalan Sanyan, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (Nangka) at Town Square Phase II, Zinga Properties Sdn. Bhd. At Jalan Setia 3 & 5, Jalan Wawasan and FAMA at Jalan Permai. Inspection shall be carried out by Council Food Unit and Divisional Health Office for food sampling to ensure clean foods are served to consumers throughout selling period and appropriate sanitary practices applied. It would be regularly supervisory and monitory.

Love Earth Day Campaign 2018

First of all, congratulations to Cr. Albert Tiang for successfully organised Love Earth Day Campaign 2018 at Wisma Sanyan with co-organiser JCI, Sibu. There were twelve (12) registered participants who were dealing with the green and environmental-friendly products such as biodegradable plastic bag and lunch-boxes. Council would like to welcome more NGOs, schools, government agencies etc. to participate in this annual campaign for the coming years.

Sibu Street Art Festival 2018

Sibu Municipal Council and co-organiser F1 Live Sounds & Lights Sdn. Bhd. will be organising Sibu Street Art Festival 2018 at Chuang Corridor, Sibu Town Square Phase I from 5^th to 13^th May 2018 from 6.30pm to 10.00pm daily except Colouring and Drawing Contest falls on 5^th May 2018 will start at 4:00pm at main stage of Sibu Town Square Phase I. The launching ceremony to be held on 6^th May 2018 at 7:30pm. The venue of launching ceremony located at temporarily stage under the arch of Chuang Corridor. This year, there is a newly introduced component of the event whereby different kinds of workshops are scheduled on every evening to enable visitors and public learn and expose with the making of various handmade products. Details of registration for workshops, colouring and drawing contest, booth application of Creative Bazaar can be obtained from Level 23, SMC Administration, Wisma Sanyan, UTC Sibu, Sibu Public Library and Sibu Street Art facebook page. All are welcome to join and experience all the interesting activities that scheduled throughout the event.

Labour Day (Hari Pekerja) 2018

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all press friends, Councillors and staff of SMC, a “Selamat Hari Pekerja 2018” which falls on next Tuesday, 1^st May 2018. The theme of Malaysia Labour Day 2018 is “Pekerja Berkemahiran, Peneraju Kecemerlangan Negara”. Therefore, workers’ competency is utmost vital that would contribute to organisation and country development. Nevertheless, all employers shall recognise their workers’ contribution and obviously for SMC in line with Council newly launched Tagline “Serving People, Enhancing Lives”.
