SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will plant 20 Tacoma trees in Bukit Lima Timur Commercial Centre this Sunday as part of its landscaping programme.
Councillor Lai Chiong Ann, who stated this at a press conference yesterday, called on the public to contribute their bit towards the effort.
He said it would be held through the joint effort of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Lanang Service Centre, Bukit Lima Community Association and Bukit Lima Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK).
“It will begin at 7.30am with our council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King officiating,” he said.
Tacoma tree, also known as Bignoniaceae trumpet or Tabebuia sp, blooms in the period between April and July, creating a natural ornamental landscaping to the environment.
The assortment of colourful and showy flowers and the carpet of petals along the pathway give an exotic sight.
Members of the Bignoniaceae family are found throughout the world.
Primarily, they grow within sub-tropical and tropical environments in North and South America, India, China and Australia and the southern hemisphere of Africa.
In addition to their geographic diversity, individual family members have their own distinctive characteristics.
