SIBU: The new traffic light at the intersection of Ling Kai Cheng Road, Deshon Road and Pedada Road is expected to be operational this Friday.

Speaking to reporters at the site, Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said the project was completed ahead of schedule.

It was scheduled for completion in September.

“The only thing left is to install the censors and draw the traffic lines,” he said.

He said the council was collaborating with the Public Works Department in implementing the project.

Meanwhile, the council chairman said the next traffic light installation might be carried out at the roundabout near Farley Supermarket in Salim.

Second Finance Minister and Minister of Environment and Public Health Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh yesterday praised the Public Works Department and the council for a project well done.

“They worked very hard to complete the project, and because of their efficiency, the project is completed in just three weeks,” Wong said.

“I know that the project had caused inconveniences to the public. That is why we want the project to be completed the soonest possible,” he said, adding that the project cost about RM500,000.

Also present at the site visit yesterday were council secretary Hii Chang Kee and Sibu Divisional Engineer Tiong King Wei.
