LITTERING is becoming rampant in Sibu, Sarawak, prompting the local authority to appeal to the public to help stop it.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting said the bad habit was giving Sibu a bad image.

“Illegal dumping of rubbish all over the place is on the rise.

“We want the people’s cooperation to curb it by being more responsible citizens,” he said at the Love Earth Day Ride (Carbon-Free Day – Fun Ride-cum-Plogging).

Ting appealed to the public to report to the local council any individual found dumping rubbish.

He said SMC’s administrative area was very wide, making the monitoring of illegal dumping difficult.

More than 100 cyclists took part in the Love Earth Day Ride which covered over 30km.
