JULY is a good month to visit Sibu, as the annual Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) 2023 will take place from July 14 to 23 at the town square.

In announcing this, Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley said BCF 2023 would be more exciting than previous editions, as this year’s event would feature more cultural programmes.

The main attraction at the 10-day festival would be an International Night.

“We are always trying to improve and introduce more ideas for this festival. That is why for this year, we are introducing an International Night on July 22 as an event highlight,” Mohammed Abdullah said at a press conference.

He said the International Night would showcase performances by Atmosfera, a band from Sabah popular for their original Sabahan songs.

Three traditional stages, namely the Chinese Stage on July 15, Malay/ Melanau Stage on July 19 and Dayak Stage on July 21, will be added attractions due to the diverse performances from its communities.

There will be a fireworks display and launch of BCF arch on the final night on July 23.

“We will also organise the annual Borneo Kumang Dayak Cultural Festival on the final night. Itut, which is a traditional game of the Melanau people, is back this year as another main attraction,” he said, adding that there will also be art, culture and exhibition stalls.

A Sibu Trade and Exhibition will be held concurrently at the town square.
