Ting says the Permai Lake Garden upgrade will take three years.
For a start, the upgrading of the existing footpath that will be done this year, is expected to cost RM3mil.
“This is the first most important thing because the majority of the events organised here are to encourage people to exercise,” he said after launching the SMC tree-planting campaign at the park.
He said the council would also replace the wooden footpath with a concrete one.
Some parts of the garden would be made into a science park that could be enjoyed by the children, he said, adding that more parking areas would also be created.
“We are going to make a lot of changes but we want to retain it as a park where people can come, enjoy and walk.
“We still have 11.7ha yet to be developed, so we are going to open it up and expand the footpath to that area,” he said.
Ting said funds for this project was from the state government.
