AN electronic waste collection centre has been set up by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

The public can now dispose of their e-waste at the centre in Grand Height, on Saturdays from 8am to noon.

Sarawak Information Techno-logy Association (ICT) Sibu Branch, which is managing the centre, will not charge any fee for the service.

SMC chairman Clarence Ting, who launched the centre, said they were looking to set up more such facilities.

“The association will propose a suitable place to SMC and we will prepare it for use,” he said.

Ting revealed that the second centre proposed was at the open area of Jalan Pedada, near Taman Selera Muhibbah.

He said the ewaste centre was part of efforts to keep Sibu clean.

“We urge the people to dispose of their unwanted electronic and electrical goods at this centre,” he added.

Sarawak ICT Sibu Branch vice-chairman Wong Ing Ang said proceeds from the disposal would be channelled to welfare homes.
