SIBU (Aug 12): The Sibu Muncipal Council (SMC) acted swiftly to clear the rubbish strewn along the back lane of shophouses at Jalan Wong King Huo here, said its deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley.

He believed that the littering could have occurred before the scheduled sweeping job.

“Normally, all work done by contractors (sweepers) will be updated in the SMC Public Health section’s WhatsApp group and updated with photos, including the location and time stamp,” he said.

A brief observation by The Borneo Post yesterday found rubbish strewn on both sides along portions of the lane.

On claims that sweepers contracted by the council may not be doing their job, he said he would request the Public Health committee to conduct investigations if there were any proof.

He stated that SMC would take action against them if they were found to be neglecting their responsibilities.
