SIBU (Jan 3): The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is urging seasonal fruits hawkers under its jurisdiction here to only operate within the council’s designated area for safety and to help keep the town clean.
SMC Market and Petty Traders Standing Committee acting chairman Councillor Augustine Merikan said SMC’s enforcement team will monitor these traders and will take action against those who do not comply.
“Hawkers can trade their seasonal fruits at the side of Sungai Merah Market open space.
“The place had been identified and approved by the Market and Petty Traders Standing Committee (MPT) for seasonal fruit sales. Other places around the vicinity are not allowed.
“Beside Sungai Merah Market, there are two other places where the seasonal fruit traders can do their trading, namely Uptown Taman Selera Harmoni (TSM) and in front of Fama Tamu (five Parking Lots), Permai,” Augustine told The Borneo Post today.
“Our SMC enforcement team will be doing their rounds around Sibu town to oversee and monitor the situation.
“Those non compliance traders and those that fail to comply with our SMC Enforcement directive shall be compounded and their goods may be confiscated.
“I do hope that the traders give us their fullest support and complied with what had been mentioned.
“Therefore, please trade at the places authorised and approved by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC),” he urged.
