SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has achieved numerous achievements in 2024.

According to the SMC chairman, Clarence Ting Ing Horth, it won the gold award at the 49th International Convention on Quality Control and Circles (ICQCC) in Sri Lanka.

“Then, we were awarded The ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (ACTCS) for 2024 to 2026 by the Malaysia Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry; the Local Authority Star Rating with 5 stars by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government; Silver award for the SMART Community Award 2024 and scoring a 100 per cent for SCS Scordcard Audit,” he stated at the SMC’s New Year Countdown 2025 held at Sibu Town Square recently.

He thanked all concerned including Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, his deputy ministers, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil and Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee for working together to make Sibu a better place.

Organising chairlady, Cr Michelle Law Wan Ling who also spoke, said SMC was thrilled to present the New Year Countdown with a neon theme and a laid-back concert style.

She explained that the vibrant neon lights symbolised the bright future ahead while the relaxed concert atmosphere allowed the people to unwind and enjoy the moment.

“And of course, don’t forget the musical fireworks at midnight. As we ring in 2025, the sky will light up with a spectacular display, perfectly synchronised with vibrant music that will fill the air with energy and excitement.

“It’s the prefect way to mark the beginning of a new year, with colours, lights, and sound that reflect the joy and hope we all share.

“May the coming year bring us all good health, happiness, and prosperity. Together, we can continue building a better Sibu, stronger and more united than ever before, ” Law added.
