SIBU (Nov 26): The Sibu Christmas Festival 2024 will transform the town square into a ‘Fairytale Christmas Village’ from Dec 6-25.

Event organising chairman Simon Wee said the annual festival will start at 5pm daily.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting is set to officially open the festival with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Dec 6 at 6pm.

“This year, the festival will showcase several new elements, including the construction of the largest castle ever designed for this event.

“In addition, a camping site will be available for the first time, offering visitors a unique opportunity to enjoy a camping experience while taking in the beauty of Christmas,” he told a press conference today.

He said there will be exciting performances on Dec 17-25 on the main stage, including special events by local churches on Dec 18-25.

“One of the special attractions of this year’s festival is the flying roti canai performance by three roti canai makers specially brought in from Melaka.

“This performance will take place over three consecutive nights, adding a unique touch to the festival,” he said.

Wee stressed the free festival is open to all with the goal of promoting healthy activities and a community spirit in celebrating Christmas.

“This festival is an opportunity for us to gather, celebrate Christmas, and enjoy the special experiences planned for all members of the community,” he added.
