SIBU (Aug 28): Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will organise the Sibu Christmas carnival 2024, which will be held at Sibu Town Square from Dec 17 to 25.
Event organising chairman Cr Simon Wee said the carnival, themed `Disneyland’, is one of the biggest Christmas celebrations in Sibu, featuring various exciting activities for visitors.
“The square will be adorned with Christmas lights, a 40-foot-tall Christmas tree as well as an indoor snow park that will be introduced for the first time,” he said.
He said several interesting events are planned, such as Christmas trees decorating competition, Christmas Zumba night, dream stage talent show competition and food stalls offering a variety of local and international delicacies.
“There will be performances on the main stage of the square every night from Dec 17 to 25.”
Wee said the Christmas Zumba night on Dec 21 and the talent show competition on Dec 17 are expected to be the major highlights, along with performances by local churches.
To accommodate more activities and visitors, he said the carnival’s coverage area at the square will be expanded.
“With a larger space, we hope to attract more visitors and make the event livelier than in previous years,” he added.
For the Christmas tree decoration competition from Nov 25 to 31, Wee said it is open to 12 groups from Sibu, and the winner will bring home RM3,000.
He added that the winner will be announced during the New Year countdown event.
He said the dream stage talent show competition is open to individuals of all ages with talents ranging from singing and dancing to musical performances
“The main winner will also take home RM3,000 and will be invited to perform during the New Year countdown event.”
