SIBU (July 15): The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) reminded all local hotel and restaurant operators to display ‘No Smoking’ signs in their toilets.

SMC Public Health standing committee chairman Councillor Yiing Sy Huat said they received many complaints from the public claiming there were still individuals smoking freely in the public space.

“For this reason, SMC Public Health, Environment and Municipal Services Division today conducted inspections on hotels and restaurants around the city to ensure they display the ‘No Smoking’ sign in their toilets.

“At the same time, we also checked the kitchens and waste disposal system in hotels,” he said when met during the inspection.

Joining in the inspection were Councillors Yii Suok Ming and Dr Johnny Kieh Dullah.

Yiing stressed that premises found violating the regulation would be issued a compound or warning.
