SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council will confiscate old plastic and melamine crockery from restaurants for hygienic reasons in June.

"We will not give warnings but will confiscate old plastic and melamine crockery from coffee shops and restaurants straight away," said chairman Clarence Ting.

He said this at the council board meeting on Wednesday (May 29).

Ting said some eateries are still using old crockery that looks soiled.

"We encourage owners to throw them away and buy new ones," he advised.

Ting also revealed that the council's No Plastic Straw policy is still in effect.

"I have been informed that many coffee shop operators use plastic straws when serving beverages. Our policy is still in effect, so eateries have to stop giving out plastic straws," he added.
