SIBU: Food courts and hawker centres under the jurisdiction of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) can reopen from today in view of the town entering the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), said Councillor Albert Tiang.

He said Taman Selera Muhibbah, Taman Selera Harmoni, Khoo Peng Loong Hawker Centre, Rejang Park Hawker Centre, Tiong Hua Road Hawker Centre, Sungai Antu Hawker Centre, Sungai Merah Hawker Centre, Bandong Walk and Bandong Food Court are allowed to operate effective Feb 15.

“The operation hours are from 6am till 10pm daily,” he said when contacted yesterday.

However Tiang, who is SMC market and petty traders standing committee chairman, said Sibu Central Market will remain closed until Feb 19, with Covid-19 screening set to be carried out on all the market’s hawkers over the next five days.

He also informed that Sibu Night Market and Pasar Tamu Indah will remain closed until further notice.

On Saturday, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee announced that the CMCO will be extended statewide from Feb 15 until March 1.

Sibu Division, comprising the districts of Sibu, Selangau and Kanowit, has been under the Movement Control Order (MCO) since Jan 16 following a surge in Covid-19 infections, most of which were linked to the Pasai Cluster.

As of Saturday, the districts of Sibu and Kanowit were Covid-19 red zones while Selangau, a yellow zone.
