[Mesyuarat Penuh Majlis]

YB Datuk Chairman highlighted the following issues :

1.

Anti-Littering Campaign

Litter comprises all objects that do not naturally occur in the environment but are nevertheless found thereat. There are four primary reasons on littering : no sense of ownership, a belief that others will pick up after them, litter is tolerated and littering is convenient regardless anywhere or anytime.

Despite plenty of green environmental programmes initiated by Council to enhance the civic consciousness through Anti-Littering campaign, however, this type of littering has increased significantly. Now, Council shall look into a need to reduce the amount of general litter and to make the public aware that throwing litter is an expensive habit which carries a fixed compound fee of RM500.00 with immediate effect from 1 July 2017.

“Littering says a lot about you”, quietly shames those who litter by telling them exactly what we think of them with the tagline. Schools are encouraged to organize more activities in line with Anti-Littering campaign such as putting up poster design on anti-Littering and setting up Little Litter warden within school compound etc.

All operators of supermarket and retail stores shall strictly implement “No Plastic Bag” policy in their daily operation. At the same time, members of the general public are therefore urged to change their habit by using paper bags, biodegradable carriers or carry their own shopping bags.

2.

Sanitary Practices and Hospitality in Tourism

Council would like to stress on the importance of managing a clean, safe, proper sanitary and warm hospitality operation in order to achieve customer satisfaction and long-term success. Frontliners of Tourism sector comprises hotel industry, eatery outlets, particularly those actively involved in servicing sector should apply strategies to demonstrate and implementing solutions to strengthen effective customer relationship.

Apart from that, it is vital to demonstrate the use of safe food handling and proper sanitary practices as follows :

  1. All food operators and hawkers are urged to use clean aprons, hand gloves and head gears during any food preparation;
  2. All hotel operators are urged to enhance proper housekeeping practices.
This year, all Tourism industry players should work together in order to achieve a success in Visit Sibu Year 2017.
