[Mesyuarat Penuh Majlis]

YB Datuk Chairman highlighted the following issues :

1.

Payment of  2nd Half 2017  Assessment  Rates Bill

I wish to remind the public that the deadline for payment for 2nd half 2017 assessment bill shall  be on 31 October 2017.  Payment could be made at SMC UTC Sibu counter or online through Paybills Malaysia.  There will be no reduction or write-off of outstanding fees and surcharges as directed by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.  Any request will not be entertained.  YB Datuk Chairman appealed to  the public for their  cooperation  on  this matter.

2.

Strict Enforcement Action

With regards to offences such as littering and illegal parking, the Council has resolved to bring those offenders to Court who fail, refuse and neglect to pay their compounds or outstanding fees.  Clamping action might be taken in the future on irresponsible vehicle owners who endanger public safety.

3.

Stern Action Towards Irresponsible Dog Owners

In light of the recent rabies outbreak, dog owners had been reminded to be responsible to keep their dogs within their house compounds.  This is to prevent nuisance or spread of disease.  Council continues catching stray dogs found within Council’s jurisdiction.  Dog owners would have to pay a fine of RM25.00 to have their dogs released if they happened to be caught by Council for first time offenders.  If they are caught for the second time, a fine of RM50.00 will be imposed on the owners.  An additional fee of RM5.00 will be imposed on the owners if the dogs claimed by those owners are  found to be unlicensed.  To date, Council had caught 109 dogs from 1 September 2017 until 21 September 2017 with 20 dogs claimed within the same period.  Council is now looking into other mechanisms or stricter actions to ensure that dog owners become responsible masters and take good care of their pets.

4.

Collapsed Building of 4 Units 3-Storey Shophouse (flats) At No. 2A to 2D Lorong Laichee 3 On Lot 1993 STD Sibu

With regards to the recent incident of collapsed building at Lorong Laichee 3, Sibu, Council has carried out site inspection and also received the preliminary report/building assessment on the structural appraisal from Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR).  Hence, the owners should demolish or remove the structures which might pose or endanger safety of the general public.  I would also like to advise the occupants or tenants to vacate the buildings because they would be staying at their own risk.  Thus, I wish for everyone’s cooperation in ensuring  safety and  stay healthy.
